Artifact: Sunset's Shared Vision for Technology - ITEC 7410
Reflection:
The artifact that best represents standard 1.1 is Sunset school’s vision for technology use. This vision was developed by the technology committee which consisted of eight committee members. Among these members were the administrators, a parent, a student, the technology instructional coach, and three teachers. The committee met and discussed how to create a school vision for technology use that is aligned to the Colquitt County Schools technology vision. The vision that was created using input from all committee members is as follows:
Sunset School staff will utilize 21st Century technology in planning, instruction, assessment, and data analysis. Students will develop college and career readiness technology skills through the use of current and emerging technologies.
Along with the vision statement, the team listed specific vision statements for system educational improvement over a three year period. Statements were development for each of the categories: school technology policies, school infrastructure, school hardware/software, school data analysis, digital learning environments, and school professional development.
Working with the technology committee to create the first vision for technology use for Sunset school was honestly overwhelming. It was a learning process for everyone on the committee. The instructional technology coach was very helpful in guiding us in the right direction to develop a vision that was aligned to the county’s vision yet achievable considering the resources and infrastructure available in our school. To improve this artifact, I think it would be helpful to share the vision with the staff, collect input, and revisit the vision to make any adjustments that need to be made.
This artifact affects student learning and professional development. The vision created by the technology committee supports the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. It truly affects everyone at Sunset School. The vision will be evaluated in three years to see the vision is a reality throughout the school. Throughout the three year period, the instructional technology staff will observe in classrooms, conduct professional learning sessions, update school infrastructure, and use data to evaluate if the technology resources and practices being implemented are helping Sunset reach its vision.
