3.2 Managing Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: Internet Lesson Plan - ITEC 7430
Reflection:
The artifact that best represents standard 3.2 is the management of the WIKI site Webbworld. This is a class Wiki site that I use to post videos and related resources for units of study for reading, language, and math. The students and their parents often use this site at home. The students use the site to view instructional videos, play games, practice related vocabulary on Quizlet and post math word problems that are solved in class during journal time.
This artifact best demonstrates this standard because continuous monitoring and updating has to be done to this site. With the nature of this site being able for anyone to edit or make a post, it is important to closely monitor the site for inappropriate posts that may need to be removed, incorrect information, and checking in daily to read recent posts. Related videos are also posted to related with the current unit of study. Parents often use these videos to help assist students with homework and projects at home so it is important that they are up to date and that the links are working.
This artifact was one of the most useful projects I created while working on my Ed.S degree. I used it every day in my class and my students loved it. This was a wonderful way to get my students using technology at home to reinforce what we were learning in class. It was a lot of working managing the site and keeping it up to date but it was worth the work. Every day my students would beg me to log on so we could look for new comments. I will continue using this site next year for my class but hope to expand on the resources and add science and social studies content as well. To improve this site next year, I hope to add videos of myself and of my students instead of uploading videos from TeacherTube and YouTube. I believe having our own videos will be more meaningful to the students, parents, and stakeholders.
A well managed Wiki site like, Webbworld, can directly affect student learning and parent involvement. This type of resource provides valuable information parents and students can use at home to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. It also provides an easy to access resource for parents to refer to when needing information about upcoming events. By keeping the Wiki updated, parents can access this site 24 hours a day for the information they. The impact of this resource could be assessed by parent surveys.
