Artifact: Implementation Plan for WebQuest - ITEC 7445
Reflection:
This artifact that best represents standard 3.1 is an implementation plan for the process of implementing a WebQuest in an elementary classroom. This was created to help manage students and technology tools so that time and resources were used wisely during the implementation process. The implementation guide goes into great detail on how to introduce the WebQuest, grouping students, managing resources, and effective use of time so that the implementation process of the WebQuest is orderly and effective.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of standard 3.1, because it is a detailed plan for effective implementation of a WebQuest. The first step described in the plan is introducing the students to the WebQuest in a whole group setting. Using a SMART board, the teacher will demonstrate how to navigate from page to page. Avatars, special features, and movies will not be viewed during this introduction to keep the wow factor when students log on at a later point. The teacher will discuss the tasks and review the rubric that will be used for the evaluation process.
The teacher will use this information along with their knowledge of students’ individual needs to assign students with partners or small group. After groups have been formed, the groups will be displayed on a chart for all students to see. This will clearly organize the order of computer use during station time.
Time is very important when implementing a technology tool such as a WebQuest. Time is precious and needs to be used wisely and effectively. This type of authentic task needs an ample amount of time so all students can complete their tasks. The plan recommends for the teacher to allot each group 45 minutes a day at a computer for an eight to ten day period for completion. During this time, students will need their journals and the graphic organizer provided in the WebQuest to record information.
A list of necessary tools and software is included in the implementation plan so the teacher can ensure all the tools are present and working before implementation. All computers need internet access, headphones for each participate, and presentation software to produce the final product. The plan also specifies that the students only work on the WebQuest at school. This will prevent from students having parent assistance or completing the WebQuest without group members. When all students complete the WebQuest, they will share their presentations with the class and post on the class website for parents and other audiences to view.
It is important to note that while this implementation plan was developed for a specific WebQuest, it can help classroom teachers implement any WebQuest of their choice. This is a guide to help teachers prepare themselves, students, and classroom for an effective learning experience. As a result of completing this project, I learned how to effectively manage and implement technology tools and resources in my classroom. I created this plan to help me implement the WebQuest. It was also created to help guide other teachers who would like to use my WebQuest or any other WebQuest in the future. [SB1] To improve this plan, I would incorporate how-to videos demonstrating the classroom teacher introducing the WebQuest, grouping children, and the actual implementation of the WebQuest. It is always helpful to see the implementation in action instead of just reading the steps. A video would also help teachers to better understand the process.
