Artifact: Data Inventory - ITEC 7305
Reflection:
The artifact that best represents standard 2.7 is a data inventory that was completed for ITEC 7305. The data inventory helps to closely identify and analyze the types of assessments given at Sunset Elementary school and the purpose of each assessment. The inventory documents the data source, content area, dates of collection, students assessed, accessibility, current data use, and more effective ways the data could be used.
This data inventory demonstrates mastery of standard 2.7 because it is a great tool to record the variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments and how they are currently used throughout the school. For Sunset’s data inventory, all forms of assessments were included in the inventory. From state mandated tests to sight word inventories, a detailed description of the assessment was given. A more effective use for the data collected is also included on the inventory. This helps school to reexamine how current data is being used and make recommendations on how the data could be used in a more effective way.
Completing the data inventory was very eye opening at how many different forms of assessments are used across grade levels at Sunset Elementary School. It was also eye opening to see that even though there are a lot of assessments, there is still a need for county wide assessments in reading, ELA, science, and social studies. To improve this artifact, it would be helpful to complete this assignment during the school year so I could check with administrators and other grade group leaders to make sure that assessments were not left off the inventory. Due to it being summer, personal knowledge along with the school improvement plan was used to documents the assessments commonly used at Sunset.
This artifact affects professional development and student achievement. Assessments are very important part of a school’s curriculum. How assessments are given and how the data is used has a direct effect on instructional practices and student achievement. The effects of the data inventory on professional development and student achievement could be assessed when analyzing data over time. It would be important to look for patterns, trends, and gaps in the data that signals a need for adjustments to the classroom instruction or professional practices.
