3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. (PSC 3.7/ISTE 3g)
Artifact: Mrs. Webb's Website
Reflection:
Two artifacts that best represent standard 3.7 is my class website which is also linked to my class Wiki site. These sites provide helpful information about my background, class schedule, upcoming events, and contact information for outside audiences. The website is provided through the school system and is linked to my school website for parents and other members of the community to easily reach me and locate information about our class. The Wiki site was created using wiki.com and provides helpful links and resources to support learning.
These sites demonstrate mastery of standard 3.7 because they allow students, parents, peers, and other community members to easily contact me. The website provides outside audiences and students with current information about things that happening in our classroom and provides a link to our class Wiki site where visitors can easily access resources and tools that support what is being taught in class. The Wiki site allows students, parents, peers, and other outside audiences to post messages to the class or comment on any content that has been posted on the site.
My class website and wiki site have been helpful in communicating with students, parents, peers, and outside audiences. The students often post word problems onto the wiki site that are used during math journal time. One thing that I learned from creating these sites is that parents really appreciate videos that support math strategies that are being taught in class. Many parents shared how the videos allowed them to help their child at home. To improve these sites, next year I plan on expanding my class website by updating it weekly with the content standards that are being taught that week along with the topics for each subject so that parents can easily check and see what their child is learning that week. I also plan on adding a section of upcoming assessments so parents and students will be well aware of upcoming assessments they need to study for.
My class website and wiki site both support students learning and stakeholder involvement by providing easy to navigate sites that provide access to links to support learning that is currently taking place in class. Both sites, the website and Wiki site provide ways for outside audiences to contact me if they wish. Both sites also provide important upcoming dates and events. One way to assess the affect these sites have student learning and involving stakeholders is by conducting parent and student surveys.
