6.2 Reflection
Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 6.2/ISTE 6c)
Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
The artifact that best represents standard 6.2 is the blog on my professional portfolio Weebly site. When beginning the Instructional Technology program at Kennesaw State University, the portfolio website was created along with a personal blog page which is an important component of the portfolio. The blog was designed and created to post reflections throughout my course of study at KSU.
This blog demonstrates mastery of standard 6.2 because after every ITEC course, a reflection was added to the blog to evaluate what was learned and how the knowledge gained impacted my professional practice. In ITEC 7430, blogs were posted weekly to reflect on what was learned during the current module. The blogs evaluated multiple Web 2.0 tools and how they could be implemented in the classroom setting. During this class, I participated in meaningful discussion by commenting on each other’s posts using the ladder of feedback protocol.
Blogging on a regular basis helped to improve and strengthen my ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhance learning experiences. I learned a lot about blogging and how effective blogging can be, not only for the author, but also for the readers. It was always interesting to read my classmates’ thoughts of the Web 2.0 tools we were learning each week and how they were being implemented in their schools. By reading my classmates’ blogs, I acquired many ideas and resources that could easily be implement in my school or classroom. One way I could have improved my blog would have been to blog more throughout my work at KSU. I only blogged when required, but I believe it would have been helpful to reflect throughout each semester like we did in ITEC 7430 instead of just at the end of each course.
Blogging is an effective way to evaluate and reflect on one’s learning. This type of artifact could easily be implemented in the classroom to increase student achievement. Students could blog after each unit of study or throughout the semester. I think it is equally important for students to read other classmates’ posts and comment using the ladder of feedback protocol to guarantee quality comments that initiate conversation. The effect of blogging could easily be assessed by classroom observations and student feedback.
